Start With Mount Bromo
Although Indonesia is home to over 150 volcanoes, there are certain craters that really stand out from the crowd – and Mount Bromo is one of them. Due to the extremely fertile soil around the volcano, the surrounding area is luscious and green, but a hike up the peak soon allows you to see a changing environment. In fact, it may seem as though you’ve landed on an alien planet. The hike will take you around 1-2 hours, but it’s best to hike before the sun rises so that you can check out the incredible sunrise from the top.
Check Out Mount Ijen
While Mount Bromo is perfect for a morning hike, Mount Ijen is perfect for a night-time adventure. That’s because this volcano is home to a steaming sulfur lake that’s perfectly blue, and you can even check out the blue flames when the sun starts to set. The lake at the top is well worth the 1-2 hour climb and the fact that it’s best to wear a gas mask.
Then, Choose Your Next Volcano
How you can go volcano hopping around Indonesia is really down to your itinerary and the length of your trip. If you have a few weeks to spare, then you could hike some of the main volcanoes in the country, including Mount Tambora, Mount Merapi, Mount Agung, and more.
So, is it time to embark on your volcano adventure in Indonesia? It’s super easy to plan your trip.
