Referring to the upcoming Zanzibar Amber Resort merely as a luxury resort does not do it justice. When it opens in 2020, the 3,756-acre resort will be in a class of its own, especially in East Africa.
The Zanzibar Amber Resort is currently in development by Pennyroyal Gibraltar Limited. The resort will act more as a community than a simple hotel. The list of facilities extends far beyond beautiful beaches. It will include East Africa’s first championship-level golf course (designed by PGA pro Ernie Els), five global hotels, an aqua park, a deep water marina, and a nightclub.
If dining above ground is a bore, guests can enjoy a meal in the underwater restaurant. Local goods and music will be promoted through a massive souk, and horse riders can visit the equestrian center.
Managing Director Saleh Said made sure to emphasize that the Zanzibar Amber Resort “isn’t just a holiday resort.” The project is expected to create 10,000 jobs, half of which will be permanent at the development.
To create a community feel, it will offer plenty of services that you could find at home. It will include a private airport as well as a medical center. With 1,914 luxury villas and another 3,440 lavish apartments and penthouses available for permanent residences, the resort will have an onsite international school. Apartment prices will start at $700,000 and reach upwards of $10 million.
If you are hoping to hop on this opportunity, you will not get all that is advertised for some time. The $1.6 billion project will be rolled out in five phases over the next 15 years.
Fortunately, the government has expressed its support for the resort. Residency on the resort comes with no inheritance tax, no capital gain tax, a low transfer tax, and a low corporate tax on local income. It might take be a while till it is fully realized, but the Zanzibar Amber Resort could become one of the premier destinations in the world.
